In Tuapse, traces of oil on the beach have been covered up, and residents are complaining about smog
In Tuapse, Russia, the city beach was covered with a new layer of pebbles while cleanup efforts were underway following an oil spill. At the same time, local residents and environmentalists claim that traces of fuel oil are still visible near the water and that a full cleanup has not taken place.
This is reported by Russian propaganda media.
According to experts, toxic substances, including benzene and xylene, which are formed as a result of the evaporation of petroleum products, may be spreading in the air. Despite this, residents complain that the authorities do not publish regular data on pollution levels, making it difficult to assess the real health risks.
Amid the smoke, people are also calling for schools to switch to remote learning. Currently, students are allowed to skip classes only upon their parents’ request, although the educational process has not been officially suspended. Earlier, some kindergartens and one school located near the fire zone were temporarily closed.
Meanwhile, rescue workers continue to address the aftermath of the incident: they are cleaning oil from the water and the coastline, deploying dozens of workers, equipment, and specialized machinery. The fire at the marine terminal, which broke out following drone attacks, took several days to extinguish, and the open flames were only brought under control after prolonged efforts.
