Following a public altercation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, police detained opposition activist Artur Osipyan. In Yerevan, law enforcement officers detained Artur Osipyan, the head of the opposition “Revolutionary Party of Artsakh.” This occurred following a verbal altercation between the politician and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a rally.
The incident occurred during Nikol Pashinyan’s meeting with voters as part of the current election campaign. Opposition activist Artur Osipyan approached the Armenian prime minister and publicly accused the head of government of inefficient and uncontrolled spending of billions of dollars. According to the activist, these funds were allocated to the former separatist regime in Karabakh but ended up in the pockets of a local clan.
Pashinyan emotionally rejected the accusations, stating that all financial flows were strictly controlled by the state. The tension quickly escalated into mutual insults. Ultimately, the Armenian prime minister lost his composure and sharply demanded that Osipyan leave.
Artur Osipyan is a Karabakh Armenian politician and public figure, and the leader of the opposition “Revolutionary Party of Artsakh.” After the dissolution of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in 2023 and the mass exodus of the Armenian population from the region, he moved to Armenia as a refugee (displaced person), where he continued his active opposition activities.
According to the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Artur Osipyan was detained and taken to the Arabkir Police Department in Yerevan. He is officially charged with hooliganism due to his behavior. The court remanded the activist in custody for two months.
