In Wrocław, Poles brutally beat a 19-year-old Ukrainian man because of his language
Police in Wrocław, Poland, are investigating an assault on a 19-year-old Ukrainian citizen that took place on July 4 on Slodowa Island in the city center. According to the victim and his father, the conflict may have arisen because the young man was speaking Ukrainian.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. while the young man was relaxing with his girlfriend and friends. At that moment, his mother called him, and he began speaking with her in Ukrainian.
The victim’s father, Igor, believes that this was the cause of the attack.
“That’s what triggered this aggression. God forbid anyone else should ever face such a situation. They simply beat up a person like animals. This kind of aggression must not spread throughout Wrocław. We have to stop it,” he said.
According to 19-year-old Volodymyr, while he was on the phone, a stranger approached him and asked for an e-cigarette. After he refused, the man began insulting him and called others over.
The victim claims there were between 9 and 15 attackers. According to him, they ripped his shirt, pulled it over his head so he couldn’t see anything, and then began beating him with their fists and feet, particularly on the head.
“My whole nose was covered in blood; I was covered in blood; my shirt was torn; and they even ripped my necklace off. And then, after all that, when the police arrived and broke up the fight, I heard—and my friends heard too—how they were laughing as they walked away from me, saying they’d beaten up a Ukrainian,” Volodymyr said.
As a result of the attack, the young man was hospitalized. Doctors diagnosed him with a broken nose, spinal injuries, and numerous bodily injuries.
After the incident, the victim’s father contacted the police, who opened an investigation. The family is also urging witnesses to the attack to provide law enforcement with any information that could help establish the circumstances of the incident and identify those involved in the beating.
