Ukraine will receive the mine countermeasures vessel "Henichesk" from the Netherlands

In June, Ukraine will receive the minesweeper "Henichesk" from the Netherlands, which will become the fifth vessel in its future minesweeping fleet. The crew is currently undergoing training abroad, and the handover of the ship will take place once the training is complete. The head of state announced this on Facebook.

According to the head of state, the Dutch side is taking full responsibility for training the crew and preparing the vessel technically before its handover to Ukraine. Zelenskyy noted that the ship will be named “Henichesk”—in honor of the Ukrainian vessel lost during a combat mission in June 2022 near the Kinburn Spit. He emphasized that this decision has not only practical but also symbolic significance for the Ukrainian fleet.

In his statement, the president said: “The Netherlands will fully train the crew and will transfer the ship to Ukraine as early as June. It will be named ‘Henichesk’—in honor of our vessel that was lost during a combat mission.”

Zelenskyy also emphasized that the new ship will be part of a broader program to build up Ukraine’s mine countermeasures capabilities. “This is already the fifth ship in Ukraine’s future mine countermeasures fleet and the second one specifically from the Netherlands,” he noted.

The President thanked the Netherlands for its support and participation in training Ukrainian naval personnel, and also announced the presentation of awards to Ukrainian defenders and representatives of the Dutch side. He emphasized that cooperation between the countries remains systematic and long-term, particularly in the field of maritime security.

Additionally, in the temporarily occupied Crimea, satellite imagery confirmed damage to at least two Russian oil depots following strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

On the front lines, Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers eliminated Yuriy Hrytsenko, known as the “Zelenograd maniac.” After serving his sentence, he joined the war against Ukraine.
