Ukraine is receiving support from the IMF and the World Bank

A meeting between the World Bank and the IMF was held in the United States to discuss support for Ukraine. The partners confirmed that financial assistance will remain crucial, and Ukraine expects new funds in the near future. In particular, a large loan from the EU is expected to be released. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko made this statement following the results of the World Bank and IMF ministerial roundtable in support of Ukraine.

A ministerial roundtable involving the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund was held in the United States to discuss support for Ukraine amid the war. This is the ninth such meeting, and according to the Ukrainian side, it demonstrates that the issue of Ukraine remains on the international agenda.

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized that assistance from partners is now critically important for the country, especially in the areas of finance, energy, and defense. She noted that Ukraine has endured a difficult winter under constant attacks and is already preparing for the next heating season. “This is the ninth meeting in this format—it is an important signal that Ukraine remains the focus of international attention,” Svyrydenko emphasized.

According to her, defense spending in 2025 was very high—over 40% of GDP and about 70% of the state budget. The government emphasizes that this is not only about Ukraine’s security but also about the protection of all of Europe. “This is a contribution not only to Ukraine’s security but also to the protection of all of Europe,” the prime minister noted.

Ukraine has already received the first tranche under the new IMF program—$8.1 billion. Now the government is awaiting the next major step—the release of a €90 billion loan from the European Union. “Support from international partners is crucial for us,” Svyrydenko added.

She also emphasized that despite the war, Ukraine is continuing its reforms. These include economic changes, combating shadow schemes, deregulation, and creating better conditions for investors. According to the Prime Minister, the government is working with partners to attract new investments and reduce risks for businesses.

The Ukrainian side also informed its partners about the latest parliamentary decisions and personnel changes, including the appointment of the head of the State Customs Service. All of this, according to the government, should help fulfill commitments to international partners and accelerate European integration.

In addition, the Netherlands signed a partnership agreement with Ukraine and is investing €248 million in the joint production of drones.
