Ukraine needs about 2,000 anti-ballistic missiles per year — Kubilius
European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius stated that Ukraine needs to be supplied with approximately 2,000 anti-ballistic missiles annually due to the modernization of Russian weaponry.
According to him, Russia has improved the capabilities of its ballistic missiles, which are now capable of changing their trajectory, thereby reducing the effectiveness of countermeasures. As a result, more than one interceptor may be required to intercept a single target.
Last year, Ukraine recorded 2,000 missile strikes, of which about 900 were ballistic. Kubilius emphasized that Europe needs to increase the production of air defense systems by 400%. He added that defense must be multi-layered and include not only anti-aircraft missiles but also interceptor drones to effectively counter threats from Russia.
On March 23–24, Russian forces carried out one of the largest attacks since the start of the full-scale invasion, deploying nearly a thousand weapons.
Moscow is attempting to exploit the global shortage of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems. By targeting ballistic missiles at frontline areas in the Zaporizhzhia and Poltava regions, where these modern systems are absent, the enemy is achieving hits, as it is impossible to intercept such targets with other means.
