Passage through Baja California
On Monday at 22:00, Polo made landfall in the state of Baja California Sur, near the municipality of Comondú. There, the hurricane, which was Category 3 at the time, brought 15 to 30 centimeters of rainfall. Mexico's meteorological service reported sustained winds of 150–170 km/h, gusts of 180–200 km/h, and waves 7–9 meters high.
According to preliminary data from Baja California Sur authorities, there were no deaths or injuries as a result of the hurricane's passage there, and damage was assessed as minor. At the same time, hundreds of people in the region were evacuated. Mexico's Navy prepared personnel on the Pacific coast and dispatched three vessels to deliver aid to isolated coastal communities.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center forecast that Polo would weaken on Tuesday afternoon as it moved inland. Mexican authorities urged residents of dangerous areas to remain at home or in temporary shelters.
