Ghanaian government says it is combating drug trafficking and security gaps — MyJoyOnline

In Ghana, the authorities are working to combat illicit drug trafficking and eliminate gaps in the security system, said Rashid Tanko-Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress. He spoke on Joy FM's Top Story programme on September 22.

Government actions

According to MyJoyOnline, Tanko-Computer said that the government has acknowledged the problem and is taking measures to ensure Ghana does not become a hub for illicit drug trafficking. According to him, the authorities intend to resolutely combat this activity.

Security system

The National Democratic Congress representative said that the current authorities inherited a vulnerable security system intended to combat drugs and are working to address its shortcomings. He also noted that President John Mahama and the relevant security agencies are monitoring the situation and taking measures to resolve the problem.

The statement came amid concerns from the opposition New Patriotic Party over recent cases of drug trafficking. The party also alleged shortcomings in controls at ports and other entry points into the country.
