Heavy rains in Austria have caused flooding and landslides

Severe storms and heavy rains have caused flooding and landslides in the mountainous regions of western Austria. Due to the bad weather, tourists found themselves stranded in a mountain hut.

On Thursday evening, at least three landslides occurred in the popular tourist region of Zillertal

Streams of mud and debris temporarily blocked roads in the valley, disrupting traffic.

The severe weather also caused problems in other mountainous areas of the country.

Near Bad Gastein, 11 people were stranded in a mountain hut. In the evening, six tourists were successfully evacuated by helicopter.

The mountain hut staff remained on site. No reports of injuries resulting from the storm have been received.

Due to heavy rains, rescue workers were also called in to deal with the aftermath of the storm in Innsbruck and Kitzbühel. In particular, firefighters worked on flooded streets and in the basements of buildings.

In the federal state of Salzburg, streams overflowed their banks due to the rainfall. In the municipality of Uttendorf, water flooded part of the town and blocked roads.

New landslides were also reported in the popular tourist resorts of Dorf-Gastein and Bad Gastein.

There are currently no reports of fatalities or injuries resulting from the natural disaster.

This was reported by dpa, citing police data.

As a reminder, in Chile, 13 people died as a result of heavy rains and widespread flooding, and seven others are still missing. Due to the severe weather, thousands of people were evacuated, dozens of homes were destroyed, and about 87,000 customers remain without power.

As a reminder, on the morning of July 22, a heavy downpour hit Odesa, causing widespread flooding in various parts of the city. The storm flooded streets, courtyards, and roads, and some public transportation services were temporarily suspended.

In Germany, firefighters managed to contain a large-scale wildfire in the Müritz National Park, which broke out on the site of a former military training ground.
