Ibiono-Ibom bans involving pupils in manual labor — Premium Times Nigeria
The Ibiono-Ibom Local Government Council in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, has banned heads of 64 public primary schools from involving pupils in manual labor, including grass cutting and work on private farms. This was reported by Premium Times Nigeria.
Ban for school staff
Council Chairman Asukakak Umoh announced the directive at a meeting with the heads of the district's 64 public primary schools, held on July 23 before the end of the academic term. According to him, pupils must not leave their studies to work for school heads or teachers.
Umoh instructed school heads, teachers, and other people with authority over pupils to stop sending children to cut grass during or after classes. He also prohibited assigning pupils work on private farms or other personal tasks for teachers and school heads.

Workers to maintain school grounds
According to Umoh, the council purchased 64 brush cutters and hired 64 workers to maintain the grounds of public primary schools. Each worker was assigned to serve one school so that pupils would not have to cut grass or perform other work that could interfere with their studies.
The council chairman warned that school heads and other officials who violate the directive may face disciplinary measures. The same sanctions are предусмотрены for workers hired to cut grass if they fail to carry out their duties.
According to Umoh, the initiative is intended to improve children's learning conditions in Ibiono-Ibom and enable them to focus on education.
