Indonesia ends search for journalists near volcano — Daily Maverick
In Indonesia, rescuers ended on the tenth day the search operation for eight people who went missing at sea, including five journalists covering the eruption of the Anak Krakatau volcano. Daily Maverick reports, citing Reuters.

Photojournalists from local and international media outlets, including Turkey’s Anadolu agency, set out on a speedboat from Banten province on September 7. Contact with them was subsequently lost, prompting the launch of a search-and-rescue operation.

The search may resume
Banten Governor Andra Soni said on Thursday evening that the search had been halted because rescuers had failed to find the missing people. According to him, the operation may be resumed if new information emerges.
After the first eruption late on September 4, ash from Anak Krakatau, located between the islands of Java and Sumatra, blanketed Jakarta and nearby areas. Eight airports were closed due to the danger, affecting more than 340,000 travelers. Indonesia has 500 volcanoes, 127 of which are active, according to the country’s volcanological agency.
