Eight people, including five journalists, sought in Indonesia
In Indonesia, rescue services were searching for eight people, including five journalists, who went missing during a trip to cover the eruption of the Anak Krakatau volcano. The group set off by speedboat from an area near Jakarta on the afternoon of Monday, September 7, but did not return. The vessel’s owner also had no information from the crew.
As Channel NewsAsia reports, the journalists were to take photos and videos of the eruption. Since Saturday, volcanic ash has disrupted operations at several airports and covered Jakarta and neighboring cities.

According to Al-Amrad, head of the local search and rescue service, there were five journalists, two crew members and a guide on board. The journalists worked, among others, for the state agency Antara, the Turkish state agency Anadolu and the local website iNews.

Antara confirmed that its photographer Muhammad Bagus Khoirunas was among the passengers. According to the rescue service, one of the journalists contacted a colleague at 15:00 on Monday and shared his location, but has not been in contact since.
Search operation
Rescuers, police and the company that owns the speedboat were involved in the search. Police told Antara that high waves and poor visibility complicated the operation. According to Al-Amrad, the search was suspended for the night and was planned to resume on the morning of Wednesday, September 9.
