On the island of Sumatra in Indonesia, a 68-year-old woman miraculously survived a vicious bear attack on a coffee plantation. The predator mauled the left side of her face, gouged out her eye, and dragged her about 10 meters across the ground.
This was reported by the Daily Star, citing a medical report published in a professional journal.
After the attack, the woman was first taken to a local medical facility and then transported for eight hours to a specialized hospital. Throughout this time, doctors fought to save her life, administering antibiotics and painkillers and stopping the bleeding.
Doctors diagnosed a massive avulsion injury to the face, multiple fractures of the upper jaw and zygomatic bone, and due to critical damage, the left eye had to be removed.
After a complex reconstructive surgery, the woman was able to regain her chewing and speech functions.
