Iran has announced the date of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's funeral – Reuters

Iran has officially announced the schedule for the state funeral and farewell ceremonies for former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which will take place from July 4 to July 9. The official funeral processions will begin in the capital, Tehran, and conclude on July 9 with the leader’s burial in his hometown of Mashhad, within the sacred complex of the Imam Reza Shrine.

In addition to the main events, as part of a large-scale multi-day procession, farewell and memorial ceremonies are also scheduled for July 7 in the city of Qom, which is sacred to Shia Muslims. According to Khamenei’s wishes, each of the regional processions will last at least 24 hours, and overall, the country’s authorities expect up to 20 million people to attend mourning events in various cities, prompting the Islamic Republic to declare a new period of national mourning.

Iran’s spiritual leader, who had led the country uninterrupted for 36 years, died at the age of 86 on February 28 as a result of the first massive wave of high-tech airstrikes jointly carried out by the U.S. and Israeli air forces. Although the canons of Islamic law strictly require the burial of the deceased as soon as possible (preferably within the first 24 hours), religious rules allow for significant exceptions and delays in the context of active hostilities. Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump officially confirmed the leader’s elimination and called the special operation an act of justice and retribution for the numerous casualties caused by the Tehran regime’s actions.

This was reported by the Reuters news agency.

As a reminder, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the U.S. and Israeli strikes, will be buried in the holy city of Mashhad.

As a reminder, several Western agencies reported that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s body was found under the rubble of his residence.

The Israeli military published a list of high-ranking Iranian officials who, according to them, were killed in the airstrikes on February 28.

Israel decided to eliminate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei back in November 2025.
