In Israel, Minister Zohar says he will seek to revoke NAZA creators’ citizenship
In Israel, Culture Minister Miki Zohar said he intends to immediately seek the revocation of Israeli citizenship from filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor. The statement came after their documentary NAZA received a special jury prize at the Venice Film Festival.
Minister’s statement
In a post on social media platform X, Zohar called the film’s victory shocking and the film itself disgusting. He accused its creators of harming their country for approval abroad and said their actions constituted treason against the state.
The minister also referred to a reform in the film sector which, according to him, he initiated so that Israeli citizens would not have to fund harm to the Israeli military and the state. Zohar said he would act to revoke the filmmakers’ citizenship.

Award in Venice
As Anadolu Agency reports, NAZA was first screened in Venice on Thursday, and on Saturday the film won the special jury prize. According to the official synopsis of the Venice Film Festival, the film examines the systems behind what the synopsis describes as the calculated mass killing of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
The film also uses testimony from Israeli military intelligence officers and soldiers. After its premiere, the film received an ovation that lasted approximately 25 minutes.
