Israel has responded to Trump's call to halt the strikes on Lebanon

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Israel should no longer carry out airstrikes on Lebanese territory, a remark that has caused surprise and concern among Israeli officials.

This was reported by Axios.

According to the publication, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his team were shocked by the American leader’s statement, which, in their view, contradicts the terms of the recently agreed-upon ceasefire.

Earlier, the U.S. announced a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. Under the terms of the agreement, Israel was to refrain from offensive actions but retained the right to self-defense in the event of threats.

Trump wrote on social media: “Israel will no longer bomb Lebanon. The U.S. has forbidden them from doing so.”

He later clarified his position in an interview, emphasizing that he insists on a complete cessation of strikes.

According to sources, the Israeli side learned of the statement from the media and immediately contacted Washington for clarification. In particular, Israel’s ambassador to the U.S., Yehiel Leiter, sought to determine whether this signaled a change in U.S. policy.

The White House later explained that the agreements remain in effect: Israel is not to conduct offensive operations, but may act in self-defense.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) continue to shell settlements in southern Lebanon, including the towns of Al-Khiam and Dbaybin, despite the declared ceasefire.

The day before, residents in Beirut celebrated the ceasefire by firing celebratory shots into the air.

The leader of the Houthis in Yemen, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, called the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran a “great victory” for Tehran. He stated that Iran had gained the upper hand and was able to pressure the U.S. and its allies by closing the Strait of Hormuz.

Russia continues to evacuate its personnel from the Iranian nuclear facility, despite the announced ceasefire. Most of the staff have already been evacuated, but some remain on site. Moscow says the situation remains unpredictable.

Oil prices have surged again, approaching $100 per barrel. The reason is shipping disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz, despite the ceasefire with Iran. The market remains volatile following a sharp drop the day before.
