In Lebanon, Italian peacekeepers have restored a destroyed crucifix

Italian soldiers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, together with local Christian priests, have restored a crucifix of Jesus Christ that had previously been destroyed by Israeli forces.

It was installed in its former location in the village of Debel.

The figure of Christ was specially delivered from Italy by Nuncio Paolo Borgia. Upon arrival, it was consecrated at the local church.

The restoration of the religious symbol took place with the participation of UN military personnel and representatives of the local Christian community.

As a reminder, Israeli troops damaged a religious symbol—a crucifix featuring a statue of Jesus Christ—in southern Lebanon. Following an investigation, the IDF deemed the soldier’s actions unacceptable and punished him with arrest. The incident drew public condemnation from Israeli leadership.
