UAE seizes 16.2 kg of methamphetamine hidden in a vehicle tire — The National

The United Arab Emirates Customs Service prevented an attempt to bring 16.2 kg of crystal methamphetamine into the country. The drugs were concealed in a vehicle tire at a border crossing point.

Scanning raised suspicion

The vehicle drew the attention of customs inspectors after passing through radiation scanning systems that recorded unusual readings. Staff then conducted a manual inspection of the vehicle.

A drug detection canine unit from the Department of Customs and Security Support also took part in the inspection. During the search, concealed drugs were found in the vehicle tire, The National reports.

Seizure statistics

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security said the operation demonstrated the vigilance and practical experience of customs inspectors, as well as the role of modern control technologies at entry points to the UAE.

According to the authority, the General Directorate of Border Security has recorded 765 drug seizure cases since the beginning of 2026. They involved about 390 kg of narcotic substances and 50,000 tablets.
