Another oil tanker has been attacked in the Strait of Hormuz
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported another attack on an oil tanker near the exit of the Strait of Hormuz. The incident occurred approximately 30 km off the coast of Oman.
“UKMTO received a report of an incident involving an oil tanker 17 nautical miles (approximately 31.5 km—ed.) east of the city of Khasab, Oman. The vessel, which was heading toward the exit of the Strait of Hormuz (toward the Arabian Sea—ed.), was struck by three unidentified projectiles,” the statement said.
It is noted that the tanker’s crew is safe, and there are currently no reports of environmental damage. Authorities are investigating the incident.
No other details, including the vessel’s name and port of registry, were provided. Similarly, the UKMTO did not specify who was behind the attack, although it is known that since the start of U.S. and Israeli operations against Iran on February 28, the Iranian military has announced a ban on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and has been attacking oil tankers and merchant ships attempting to pass through this waterway.
As a reminder, Iran has compiled a blacklist of vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
As a reminder, 16 million barrels of oil were transported through the Strait of Hormuz overnight.
Earlier, the U.S. announced that it had facilitated the transit of 660 million barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz.
