Bear feasts on baked goods at Aspen farmers’ market — The Guardian

In the US city of Aspen, Colorado, a bear entered a farmers’ market and feasted on bread and baked goods from one of the stalls. On Saturday, passers-by and vendors filmed the unusual visitor on their phones as the animal wandered between market rows and stood on its hind legs to reach food.

The bear reached the stall

As The Guardian reports, at one point the bear jumped onto a table to gain better access to the baked goods. The animal appeared while vendors were still setting up their stalls.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesperson Joey Livingston told the Denver Post that a police officer tried to drive the bear away from people and food. A Colorado Parks and Wildlife employee was already heading to the scene when the animal climbed a tree and later left the market area.

Before winter hibernation, bears are particularly active and seek more food to gain weight. According to the publication, record drought has reduced the food sources available to them, leading to more contacts between animals and people.
