The United Kingdom will begin supplying nuclear fuel to Ukrainian nuclear power plants

During the G7 summit, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer officially announced the signing of a major two-year agreement to supply Ukrainian nuclear power plants with the necessary nuclear fuel.

To finance and support the uninterrupted supply of enriched uranium to the domestic operator Energoatom, the British government is allocating significant funds through the state-backed export credit agency UK Export Finance

The fuel will be supplied by the leading specialist company Urenco, and the total amount of financial guarantees for this critically important project will be £270 million.

The new intergovernmental agreement is of strategic importance for maintaining the stability and full independence of Ukraine’s power grid amid constant Russian attacks on its infrastructure.

According to official data from the British government, the signed agreement will guarantee fuel supplies to Ukrainian nuclear power plants for the next two years.

The reliable operation of Energoatom’s facilities is vital for the state, as the company currently accounts for more than half of all electricity generated and consumed in Ukraine.
