U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has found himself in the spotlight after demonstrating how to catch snakes with his bare hands in Florida. The video quickly went viral on social media and sparked lively discussion among users and wildlife experts.
The footage shows Kennedy Jr. picking up two black snakes without protective gear in the backyard of his colleague’s home—Mehmet Oz, administrator of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The politician himself explained that he was removing the reptiles from his colleague’s beach house in Florida. At the same time, experts urged people not to attempt similar actions on their own.
According to the U.S. National Park Service, black snakes are non-venomous and pose no danger to humans if left undisturbed.
This is not the first time Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been involved in scandals related to animals. Earlier, during congressional hearings, he was asked to comment on media reports that he had allegedly cut off the genitals of a dead raccoon for his own research.
In addition, several years ago, environmentalists criticized the politician after he claimed that he had once decapitated a dead whale that had washed ashore with a chainsaw in order to transport it on the roof of his car.
As a reminder, a legal dispute has erupted in the U.S. over the decision to add Donald Trump’s name to the title of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington. Democratic Representative Joyce Beatty has filed a lawsuit demanding that the decision be overturned. She alleges procedural violations and an abuse of authority by the institution’s board of directors.
