A shooting occurred in Seattle, Washington, U.S., during the popular Bite of Seattle food festival. Two people were killed in the incident, and five other attendees were injured. Law enforcement officials are investigating the circumstances of the incident and searching for those involved.
The incident occurred at the end of the festival, which annually brings together hundreds of food vendors, performers, and tens of thousands of visitors near the Space Needle.
According to Seattle Fire Department spokeswoman Grace Núñez, two people died at the scene. Five injured people, including a two-year-old boy, were hospitalized at Harborview Medical Center. Also injured were a 56-year-old woman, who is in critical condition, a 23-year-old man, and two women, aged 39 and 40. According to the hospital, the victims sustained injuries to their arms, abdomen, and legs.
Following the shooting, police evacuated the festival grounds and urged residents to avoid the Seattle Center area. As of this morning, there were no reports of a suspect being taken into custody.
Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson said he is receiving real-time updates on the incident, and that state patrol officers have been deployed to assist local police.
Eyewitnesses reported that panic broke out among festivalgoers after the first shots were fired. People rushed to flee, hiding in nearby buildings and leaving their personal belongings and vendor tents behind at the festival grounds. According to witnesses, people fell and baby strollers tipped over as they fled.
