The U.S. Vice President will visit Hungary to show support for Orbán ahead of the election
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance is set to visit Hungary on April 7–8, ahead of the country’s parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12.
This was reported by Reuters, citing its own sources. The official purpose of the visit is said to be discussions on bilateral relations and regional security, particularly in the context of Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine and European stability.
The itinerary remains tentative and may be adjusted depending on the situation in the Middle East, where a US-Israeli military operation against Iran is underway. According to sources, the US administration aims to coordinate positions with Budapest on key geopolitical issues before the Hungarian elections.
U.S. President Donald Trump has already appealed to the citizens of Hungary to support incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12, 2026.
Despite trailing the opposition party “Tisa” in the polls, a significant portion of Hungarians still believe that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s party, “Fidesz,” will win the April 12 election.
Meanwhile, Péter Magyar, leader of the Hungarian opposition party Tisza, stated that if his party wins the parliamentary elections on April 12, he plans to remove key allies of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán from power, including the president and heads of the judiciary.
