A Bank of America vice president was fatally stabbed in New York
A Bank of America vice president was fatally stabbed in downtown New York City. Police believe the attack was random and unprovoked.
Erin Piacenti, a 32-year-old vice president of Bank of America (BAC.N), died as a result of a stabbing in Times Square in downtown New York City.
The incident occurred on August 31, and on September 1, Erin Piacenti died in the hospital from her stab wounds. A 68-year-old unnamed man was also injured. Doctors say his condition is stable.
According to preliminary information from the New York Police Department, the attack was random and unprovoked. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers found 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros, who was brandishing two large kitchen knives and advancing toward the officers. Officers spent several minutes trying to convince her to drop the weapons and used stun guns. When the woman continued to move toward the officers, they opened fire and fatally wounded her.
Police reported that Cisneros had a documented history of mental health issues.
Bank of America confirmed the death of its employee. According to her LinkedIn profile, Piacenti held the position of vice president in a BofA division that handles business selection and conflicts of interest. She joined the bank a year and a half ago. According to the New York Post, Piacenti had recently returned to work after a five-month maternity leave.
“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague. She was a valued member of the team, and we will miss her dearly. We extend our condolences to her family and loved ones,” the American banking giant said in a statement.
Bank of America’s Manhattan office is located near Times Square, a few blocks from the scene of the attack.
Matthew Koder, Bank of America’s president of global corporate and investment banking, noted that the bank’s security services “are fully engaged in assisting the police investigation into this case, as well as in ensuring the ongoing safety of our offices and employees.”
