In Germany, Russian libertarian Ilya Shkolny will remain in temporary detention at least until the end of April while the issue of his deportation is being resolved.

This was reported by ASTRA.

Shkolny is currently being held at a temporary detention center in the city of Hof. According to him, he may be held there until April 26—during this time, German authorities must either find a flight to deport him to Russia or extend his detention.

He noted that, together with his lawyer, he is trying to remain in Germany through the family reunification process. Shkolny is married to Ansuela Baldemeir, a citizen of Germany and Austria.

According to the activist, he may face danger in Russia due to his political views. His lawyer has resubmitted an asylum application to seek a court order to delay the deportation.

Shkolny arrived in Germany on a visa, got married, and enrolled in a master’s program at the University of Bayreuth. News of his detention emerged on March 16—by that point, he had already been in a detention center for several days.

The United States has launched a new phase of deporting Russian citizens, transporting a group of individuals on a charter flight to Chisinau.
