Ghana Navy completes training for naval artillery specialists — MyJoyOnline
The Ghana Navy has completed the Seaman Gunners First Class Specialist Qualification Course 1-26 for first-class seaman gunners. The graduation parade was held on the parade ground of the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) in Nutekpor, Ghana, MyJoyOnline reports.
Weapons and security training
The course was organized by the School of Maritime Operations (SMOPS), which is part of NAVTRAC. Participants gained specialized knowledge and practical skills in naval artillery, weapons systems, maritime security operations, and leadership.
The program covered visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) procedures, the study of shipboard guns and ammunition, guided weapons, gunnery theory, weapons control systems, and naval drills. Theoretical classes were combined with practical exercises, including firing at sea and at the shooting range.

Leadership responsibilities
As part of the course, trainees also delivered leadership presentations and took part in a simulation of summary proceedings. They were introduced to the process of submitting a commanding officer's recommendation for promotion, as well as personnel administration matters and the future duties of coxswains in naval units.
The guest of honor and training coordinator, Navy Captain David Delali Kpetigo, noted the discipline and dedication of the graduates. He urged them to apply the knowledge they had gained in their units, uphold professional standards, make considered decisions, and carry out their duties responsibly.
The ceremony was attended by commanders of SMOPS, the Supply Application School (SAS), and the Naval Recruit Training School (NRTS), as well as officers, coxswains, senior enlisted personnel, sailors, and civilian defense staff. The Ghana Navy regimental band also took part in the event.
