Alligators in Florida attacked three people in one week; one woman died

There have been three alligator attacks on people in Florida over the past week. A 31-year-old woman died as a result of one of them, and two other people were injured.

The most recent incident took place on the Akonlokhatchee River near Orlando. The woman was attacked by an alligator while swimming. Despite her boyfriend’s attempts to save her, she died from her injuries at the hospital. After the attack, experts captured two large alligators, one of which may have been involved in the tragedy.

The day before, an alligator bit a boy on the hand while he was fishing with his father, and another attack occurred on June 21 on the Rainbow River, after which the waterway was temporarily closed.

Despite the series of incidents, authorities emphasize that alligator attacks in Florida remain rare. According to the local wildlife commission, there are about 1.3 million alligators in the state, and on average, about eight unprovoked attacks on people are recorded each year.
