Western embassies have responded to Russian threats to attack Kyiv again
The embassies of the European Union, France, and Poland have strongly condemned threats made by the Russian Foreign Ministry regarding possible attacks on diplomatic missions in Kyiv, assuring that they are continuing to operate as usual. Meanwhile, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires condemned the massive Russian strike on the Ukrainian capital that took place the day before.
This was reported by Suspilne.
EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova called the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statements a “masterpiece of hypocrisy,” noting that while the Kremlin regime attacks civilians with missiles and drones every night, it simultaneously calls on diplomats to leave. She emphasized that the EU delegation is not going anywhere. The French Embassy declared Moscow’s threats against decision-making centers and foreign missions to be unacceptable and contrary to Russia’s international obligations. The Polish diplomatic mission also assured that it would not succumb to the aggressor’s provocative rhetoric and would continue to fulfill its duties in Ukraine.
Separately, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Ukraine Julie Davis personally visited sites of damage to civilian infrastructure (including museums, residential buildings, and metro stations) following the occupiers’ massive attack on the night of May 24. The diplomat emphasized the unacceptability of targeted strikes against the civilian population, expressed her deepest condolences to the victims, and quoted President Donald Trump’s position that this war must end.
The aggressor country, the Russian Federation, will continue to strike Kyiv, which the Russians traditionally refer to as retaliatory strikes.
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced its intention to carry out “systematic strikes” on Kyiv, claiming that the targets would allegedly be facilities involved in the development, production, and use of Ukrainian drones.
