Discussion of criminal legislation
Muslim made the statement at the 2026 West Africa Broadcasters Convention in Accra. It came amid public discussion over the use of criminal legislation in cases related to statements and the possible impact of such provisions on freedom of speech.
Muslim indicated that different parties interpret and apply certain provisions of the criminal code differently. In her view, discussion of these issues should continue with the participation of relevant stakeholders who apply existing laws to cases of alleged violations.
