Zelenskyy and Trump may hold talks during the UN General Assembly

Ukraine is counting on a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump in New York during the UN General Assembly.

According to him, the Ukrainian side expects the leaders of the two countries to sit down at the negotiating table and discuss further steps to end the war.

“We expect both leaders to sit down at the negotiating table and discuss advancing peace so that Russia’s war ends with a just and lasting settlement, and Ukrainians can return to normal life. This is an absolute priority for us,” Senik said.

The diplomat noted that the main topic of a possible meeting should be finding ways to achieve a just and lasting end to Russia’s war against Ukraine.

According to Senik, Kyiv is ready for peace talks, specifically in a trilateral format involving Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia. At the same time, in his assessment, Moscow is currently looking for reasons to avoid such a dialogue.

Ukraine is also ready to discuss various options for a ceasefire. Among the possible avenues, the diplomat mentioned agreements to halt attacks on energy infrastructure and address the situation in the Black Sea.

The 81st session of the UN General Assembly began on September 8. High-level general debates are scheduled for September 22–28 at UN headquarters in New York. However, the diplomat did not specify a date or format for a possible meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump.

This was stated by Denis Senik, Ukraine’s Chargé d’Affaires ad interim in the U.S., in a comment to Novosti.LIVE.

Trump claimed there was an alleged agreement between Ukraine and Russia not to attack the energy sector.

President Trump announced the severing of ties with Tucker Carlson — Jerusalem Post.
