Zelenskyy May Visit Serbia — N1
A Ukrainian delegation, which may be led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy himself, is expected to visit Serbia later this week.
Serbian TV channel N1 learned this from diplomatic sources in Belgrade.
There is currently no official confirmation of the head of state’s upcoming visit, but the Serbian side is actively preparing for the international meeting.
If this information is confirmed, it will be Zelenskyy’s first visit to Serbia since taking office in 2019 and since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Despite the lack of official announcements, diplomatic sources in Belgrade expect that a joint memorandum of understanding on trade cooperation between the two countries may be signed soon.
This is expected to be an important step toward reviving economic relations after a prolonged hiatus.
To date, Zelenskyy’s contacts with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić have taken place primarily during international political summits in which both leaders participated.
Diplomatic relations between Kyiv and Belgrade have remained complicated due to Serbia’s specific stance toward Moscow.
The first direct talks between the presidents of Serbia and Ukraine since the start of the war took place in late August 2023.
The meeting and talks took place in Athens at the “Ukraine–Southeast Europe” summit. At that time, the leaders were able to discuss in detail issues of regional security and respect for international law.
Vucic announced at the time that Serbia would continue to support and respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Vucic described the talks with Zelenskyy as open, friendly, and constructive.
