The main idea behind this initiative is that the Brazilian president could personally call both Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Kyiv’s main goal is to convince the Kremlin leader to change his stance on a diplomatic settlement.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy wants Lula to persuade Putin to personally participate in peace talks and ultimately agree to a meeting with the Ukrainian leader and mediators.
The Brazilian side has already formed its own assessment of the situation based on the diplomatic signal it received.
At the same time, it is noted that, in the Brazilian government’s view, this request stems from Kyiv’s inability to find ways and channels for dialogue with Moscow.
Official representatives of the country view this move as an attempt to activate alternative international platforms amid the general complication of the diplomatic process.
Analysts emphasize that this is by no means the first attempt to involve the South American leader in the process of resolving the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Last year, Ukraine made a similar request, and the Brazilian Foreign Ministry confirmed to the media that the message had been conveyed to the dictator, but it yielded no results.
At that time, the Kremlin ignored Brazil’s diplomatic efforts and continued its aggressive military campaign on Ukrainian territory.
