Zelensky spoke with Fico and invited him to Kyiv

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. According to Zelenskyy, the parties discussed bilateral relations and further cooperation. Both leaders are interested in ensuring that these relations remain strong. “We need to have strong relations between our countries, and we are both interested in this,” the president noted.
Separately, the conversation touched on Ukraine’s European course. Zelenskyy emphasized that Slovakia’s support on the issue of EU accession is important for Kyiv. “It was important to hear that Slovakia supports Ukraine’s membership in the European Union and is ready to share its experience,” he said.
The leaders also exchanged invitations. Zelenskyy invited Fico to visit Kyiv, and the Slovak prime minister, in turn, invited the Ukrainian president to Bratislava. In addition, the parties discussed the possibility of a face-to-face meeting in the near future. “Our teams will work out the schedule,” Zelenskyy added.
There is no specific date yet, but both sides are demonstrating a willingness for direct dialogue and further development of cooperation between the countries.
Kyiv insists on having a say in the use of maritime drones, which it plans to produce jointly with Greece, but Athens does not support this condition.
According to Western media reports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may be reconsidering his approach to negotiations with Russia without direct U.S. involvement. This involves an attempt to adapt his diplomatic strategy to new conditions and shifts in international support. Turkey is being cited as one of the possible venues for the next round of talks.
