Women who survived the war in Bosnia speak of despair over tributes to Mladic
According to Balkan Insight, two women who survived crimes committed by Ratko Mladic’s forces during the 1992–1995 war in Bosnia and Herzegovina said they were devastated that young Serbs in Bosnia were honoring his legacy following the death of the convicted war criminal.
Kada Hotic’s reaction
82-year-old Kada Hotic was in hospital undergoing medical examinations and followed reactions to Mladic’s death last week. She said: “I do not hate them. I just wonder what kind of person one has to be to celebrate a war criminal.”

Family losses
Hotic lost her husband, son and two brothers during the Srebrenica genocide in July 1995. More than 50 other members of her extended family were killed in the series of systematic murders after Mladic’s forces seized the UN-declared “safe area” of Srebrenica.
Mladic was serving a life sentence for genocide in Srebrenica. International and national courts classified the crimes committed after the capture of this territory as genocide.
