How Much Do Vegetables Cost in Ukraine on August 14?

As of August 14, prices for major vegetables in Ukraine remain largely stable. At the same time, potato prices have risen by nearly 8% over the past week.

According to data from the “Stolichny” market in Kyiv, current vegetable prices are as follows:

  • potatoes — 12–20 UAH/kg;
  • onions — 17–20 UAH/kg;
  • carrots — 15–18 UAH/kg;
  • young cabbage — 18–22 UAH/kg;
  • tomatoes — 30–60 UAH/kg;
  • cucumbers — 40–50 UAH/kg;
  • beets — 9–11 UAH/kg;
  • “Bilozyrka” peppers — 25–40 UAH/kg;
  • zucchini — 23–30 UAH/kg;
  • eggplants — 23–30 UAH/kg.

Prices for cucumbers have remained at 40–50 UAH per kilogram since August 10. The price of tomatoes has also remained largely unchanged.

At the same time, the average price of potatoes is about 14 UAH/kg. Despite the start of the mass harvest of the new crop, the price has risen by 7.69% over the past week.

Going forward, vegetable prices may depend on weather conditions. Spring frosts have already affected the ripening times of early crops, and the prolonged heat and lack of rainfall pose risks to the harvest.

Experts predict that by the end of the season, vegetables may remain 5–15% more expensive than last year. There are particular concerns regarding potatoes, as the harvest may be smaller due to unfavorable weather.
