China limits tourism numbers at popular attractions amid overcrowding
Dozens of well-known tourist sites in China have temporarily imposed restrictions on visitor numbers or suspended ticket sales after reaching full capacity. These measures come amid a surge in travel demand within the country.

Online platforms report a significant increase in bookings compared to last year: air ticket sales from January 3 to 6 rose by 40–50%, while hotel bookings reached up to 80%. Besides major metropolitan areas, medium and smaller cities rich in cultural heritage, such as Chongqing, Fangchenggang, Jinhua, Shangrao, Kaifeng, Anhan, Yibin, and Pu’er, have gained popularity.
This trend reflects a revival of domestic tourism in China, with restrictions aimed at preventing overcrowding and preserving tourist sites. Going forward, gradual expansion of the tourism season and improved visitor flow management are expected.
