Polish energy giant may acquire a stake in Ukrnafta; negotiations have begun

The Polish oil and gas group Orlen has expressed interest in investing in JSC Ukrnafta and the possibility of acquiring a stake in the company. The company confirms that negotiations with the Ukrainian side have already begun. The final terms of a potential deal have not yet been determined. This was revealed in a statement by Orlen President Ireneusz Fanfara during a press conference.

Polish energy giant Orlen is considering expanding its presence in Ukraine and does not rule out acquiring a stake in JSC Ukrnafta, which could become one of the largest energy-related moves between the two countries in recent years and strengthen cooperation in the strategic sphere of energy supply.

This was stated by Orlen President Ireneusz Fanfara, who emphasized that the company is already in the process of negotiations and is considering various formats of participation in the Ukrainian oil sector, although the final terms and structure of a potential deal are still under discussion.

According to the company’s CEO, the Ukrainian market is of strategic importance to Orlen, particularly due to the operation of the oil refinery in Mažeikiai, Lithuania, which already supplies a significant portion of its products to Ukraine, establishing stable channels of energy cooperation between the regions. “We have begun discussions regarding the possibility of our participation in Ukrnafta. We are in the process as one of the partners,” noted Ireneusz Fanfara, emphasizing that the format of future participation will depend on the negotiations and the position of the Ukrainian side.

He also added that the company is counting on the long-term development of the Ukrainian market, linking it to the future end of the war and economic recovery, and emphasized that Orlen is already one of the key fuel suppliers to Ukraine and aims to strengthen its position in this segment.

Poland has warned Russia of the consequences of strikes on diplomatic missions in Kyiv.

Poland will sign nearly 40 defense contracts under the SAFE framework by the end of May.
