A Russian hockey player accidentally shot himself in the head in front of his grandfather, who then shot himself as well
Yegor Yadykin, a Russian hockey player for Omsk’s Avangard, died tragically on the morning of June 11 in the Bashkir city of Salavat after being accidentally shot in the head with a hunting rifle. The tragedy occurred in front of his grandfather, who subsequently took his own life.
According to the athlete’s father, Ivan Yadikin, his son was visiting his grandfather. While driving to a hunting trip, Yegor reached into the back seat and accidentally pulled the trigger of the gun. The young man died on the spot from a gunshot wound to the head. After the incident, the grandfather sent a voice message to relatives explaining the circumstances of the tragedy, returned to the garage, and committed suicide. The bodies of the deceased athlete and his grandfather were later found nearby.
Yegor Yadikin was a product of Omsk’s Avangard and a two-time Russian junior champion. Throughout his career, he played in the Youth Hockey League for the “Omsk Hawks” and in the All-Russian Hockey League for the “Omsk Wings.” In 2025, the forward joined the Norilsk hockey club, for which he played 46 games in the VHL last season, scoring two goals and recording two assists.
