The U.S. has reaffirmed its position on Taiwan following China's warning

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that U.S. policy toward Taiwan remains unchanged, despite the strong statements made by Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

This was reported by Sky News.

Speaking to reporters, Rubio commented on remarks by the Chinese leader, who, during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Beijing, called Taiwan “the most important” issue in relations between Washington and Beijing.

According to Marco Rubio, the Chinese side traditionally pays special attention to the issue of Taiwan, but Washington is not changing its approach.

“They certainly think so, and they always raise this issue, and we understand that they are raising it. From our perspective, any forced change to the status quo would be bad for both countries,” the U.S. Secretary of State said.

Rubio also commented on Xi Jinping’s warning that mishandling the Taiwan issue could lead to a “clash” or even “conflict” between the countries.

“U.S. policy on the Taiwan issue has not changed as of today,” he emphasized.

According to the Secretary of State, Washington’s current policy on Taiwan has remained consistent under U.S. presidents from various political parties.

Thus, the United States continues to adhere to its long-standing policy in relations with China and Taiwan, despite the escalation of rhetoric between the parties.

The U.S. State Department stated that delays in funding Taiwan’s military expenditures, which arose due to a decision by the island’s parliament, are a “concession” to China.

Earlier, the Taiwanese government signed six major arms purchase agreements with the U.S. totaling over $6.6 billion (208.77 billion New Taiwan dollars). This information was released by Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense.

Prior to this, Beijing had sharply criticized the Taiwanese administration, stating that the island was incapable of independently ensuring the stability of its supply chains.

As a reminder, China is tightening control over the use of drones in Beijing.
