American pastor deported from Russia for praying for Trump
In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the city court ruled to forcibly deport U.S. citizen Paul Gione, who was found guilty of violating laws on missionary activity.
According to Russian media reports, an administrative report against the pastor was filed on May 30. The basis for the report was a meeting Gione had with worshippers on May 23 at one of the city’s churches.
According to the case file, the American allegedly delivered religious speeches without proper authorization and called on those present to pray for U.S. President Donald Trump. The court stated that the event was attended by people who were not followers of the relevant religious doctrine, and the meeting itself was deemed an attempt to recruit new members to a religious organization.
On this basis, the court ruled that the pastor’s actions violated regulations on freedom of conscience and the activities of religious associations and ordered his deportation from the country, Radio Free Europe reports.
