VIDEO: A rally is taking place outside the Kyiv City State Administration against the increase in the fare to 30 hryvnias
A protest is taking place outside the Kyiv City State Administration building against a possible increase in public transportation fares in the capital to 30 hryvnias.
Protesters are opposing the fare hike and calling on city officials to reconsider their plans to raise public transportation fares. City residents, civic activists, and concerned Kyiv residents have gathered at the site.
Protesters emphasize that higher fares will place an additional financial burden on the capital’s residents, especially amid rising prices for goods and services.
Discussions continue in Kyiv regarding a moratorium on fare increases for public transportation. During the last session of the Kyiv City Council, some parliamentary factions—UDAR and European Solidarity—did not support the relevant vote, which effectively complicated the decision to maintain current fares.
Klitschko called the fare of 30 hryvnias for travel in Kyiv too low.
Viktor Mykhailovych Vyhovskyi, head of the Kyiv Metro municipal enterprise, explained what the actual cost of transportation consists of and why the current fare is significantly lower than the cost price, which is determined by expenses for electricity, salaries, and staff shortages.
The Kyiv City Council was unable to pass a resolution that would have allowed negotiations to begin with international partners regarding a loan for the construction of the metro line to Troieschyna.
