BMW to open US preorders for i3 electric sedan early — InsideEVs

BMW will open preorders in the United States for the new i3 electric sedan on September 29, earlier than the previous schedule. InsideEVs reports, citing emails from BMW of North America sent to users who signed up for updates on the company’s US website.

Preorders to open earlier

According to BMW Blog, which cited sources within the company, orders for the four-door electric vehicle were initially planned to begin in the first half of October. The new i3 will become BMW’s second electric model on the Neue Klasse platform after the iX3 crossover.

Deliveries of the first vehicles to the United States are expected in the first quarter of 2027. The report also notes that BMW had already opened orders for the i3 in Europe ahead of schedule.

Specifications of the first version

At launch in the United States, the 2027 BMW i3 50 xDrive version will be available. It will have two electric motors, all-wheel drive, and a combined output of 463 horsepower. A 108.7 kWh battery will provide an EPA-estimated range of up to 440 miles.

The electric sedan will support DC charging at up to 400 kW through an integrated NACS port. The model will also receive bidirectional charging, allowing it to supply energy from its high-voltage battery. The source states that BMW is also considering a less powerful and more affordable modification, as well as an i3 M60 xDrive version.
