The BMW iX3 traveled about 400 km through Romania without recharging on the second day
During a test drive in Romania, the BMW iX3 xDrive50 electric crossover covered approximately 400 km on the second day without recharging. The route included the Transfăgărășan mountain road, two mountain climbs, and about 150 km on the highway. InsideEVs reported on the results of the trip.
On the first day, the car set out from Bucharest with a 97% battery charge and a projected range of 568 km. The iX3 traveled 350.1 km to its overnight stop, with an average energy consumption of 17.6 kWh per 100 km. The battery was at 40%, and the onboard system projected a range of another 279 km.
The next morning, the car was charged to 98%. From the Sibiu area, it set off toward Transfăgărășan—one of Romania’s most famous mountain roads. On a slow stretch before the climb, the onboard computer showed an average consumption of about 14 kWh per 100 km.

According to InsideEVs, the driver completed the climb to the Bila area twice, gaining approximately 1,580 m in elevation during the second ascent. After approximately 160 km on the second day, which included two active mountain climbs and a descent with regenerative braking, the battery charge stood at 57%. Average energy consumption at that point reached 29.6 kWh per 100 km, while the highest recorded value was 37.8 kWh per 100 km.
After descending from the mountains, the car returned to Bucharest without recharging en route. Approximately 150 km of the route were traveled on the highway at a speed of 140 km/h, and the iX3 arrived at its destination with 16% battery charge remaining. The BMW iX3 xDrive50 is equipped with a 108.7 kWh battery, two electric motors, and delivers 463 k.s. The manufacturer’s stated range for the European version is up to 805 km according to the WLTP cycle, and for the American version, up to 698 km according to the EPA estimate.
