Geely sells Battleship 700 SUV in China with water propellers — InsideEVs

Chinese company Geely has launched the Battleship 700 SUV on the Chinese market, equipped with an emergency flotation system with two rear propellers. The vehicle can move through water for about 40 minutes or stay afloat for up to two hours, InsideEVs reports.

Emergency flotation mode

Geely calls this feature an emergency flotation and rescue mode. It is intended to protect passengers if the vehicle ends up in deep water, rather than for regular travel on bodies of water.

Two 11.5-horsepower propellers are installed at the rear of the Battleship 700, externally resembling exhaust pipes. With their help, the SUV can travel through water at a speed of just over 4 miles per hour. The vehicle is also equipped with sonar to detect obstacles in the water.

Powertrain and price

On land, the Battleship 700 uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain: a 2.0-liter turbo engine works together with three electric motors — one at the front and two at the rear. The combined peak output is stated at 1,113 horsepower.

The electric motors are powered by a 47.14 kWh battery. The claimed combined range, taking the gasoline engine into account, is 1,100 miles under the Chinese CLTC cycle. The model's price on the Chinese market starts at just under $30,000 and can reach $58,000.

Other announced options include an oxygen supply system that can be used through a mask or in the cabin while traveling in high-altitude areas. Geely also plans to export the Battleship 700 to other markets, including Australia.
