Brabus unveils an 888-hp convertible based on the Mercedes-AMG G 63 in Monaco — Motor1

At a yacht show in Monaco, Brabus unveiled an open-top version of the Mercedes-AMG G 63 SUV — the 900 Rocket Edition Cabrio. The vehicle received a two-section power soft top, a reinforced body and an upgraded V8 producing 888 hp. Motor1 reports.

Reinforced body and soft top

To turn the G 63 into a four-door convertible, Brabus developed more than 500 new components. The soft top consists of two sections, opens or closes in 20 seconds and has a heated rear window.

Due to the absence of a rigid roof, the company reinforced the windshield frame and the body with additional structural elements. A steel rollover bar was installed behind the rear doors, with its exterior section finished in visible carbon fiber. According to Brabus, every completed vehicle undergoes more than 10 hours of simulated rain testing in a climate chamber before being handed over to its owner.

Engine and performance

The convertible is equipped with a 4.5-liter twin-turbo V8, while the standard Mercedes-AMG G 63 has a 4.0-liter engine. The engine received forged pistons, connecting rods and a special crankshaft. The engine's peak torque is 922 lb-ft, but torque delivery to the wheels was electronically limited to 774 lb-ft.

According to Brabus, the 900 Rocket Edition Cabrio accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds. Top speed was limited to 149 mph. The vehicle received 24-inch forged Monoblock II wheels with 295/30 tires at the front and 345/25 tires at the rear, as well as adjustable suspension developed together with KW.

The exhaust system has valves, four side pipes and Coming Home and Sport modes. Each vehicle is also provided with a blockchain-based digital passport containing data on authenticity, ownership history and specification. The export price of the displayed vehicle is €890,740 excluding German VAT, and €1,059,980 including tax.
