Range Rover is preparing an electric fastback GT — Motor1

The Range Rover brand is preparing an electric GT model that is set to become its first vehicle without traditional SUV proportions. The new model will receive a lower fastback body, and its camouflaged prototype was spotted during testing, Motor1 reports.

A fastback instead of an SUV

The published images show the front of the vehicle with narrow horizontal headlights in the style of current Range Rover models. The front section of the body is closed: according to the publication, the under-hood space of the electric vehicle will be allocated to cables and control systems for the electric powertrain.

The GT’s silhouette will feature a sloping rear window that transitions into a restrained rear section of the body. Very thin rear lights can also be seen on the prototype. Range Rover had previously shown official photographs of the camouflaged vehicle.

Electric version and a possible hybrid

The Range Rover GT is initially planned to be released only in an electric version. A full-hybrid powertrain is expected for the model later. The GT is set to become the fifth model in the Range Rover lineup alongside the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Evoque, and Velar.

The company describes the new model as an electric grand tourer designed to combine off-road capabilities with comfort for long journeys. Despite abandoning SUV proportions, the model is claimed to have all-wheel drive and the ability to travel confidently off paved roads. The interior is expected to feature a minimalist design with a narrow digital instrument panel and a central touchscreen.
