Chinese automakers hit export record in 2026
In March 2026, Chinese manufacturers of passenger cars and vehicles recorded their highest ever export volumes, highlighting the expanding global presence of China’s automotive industry. This growth reflects increasing international demand and China's competitive edge.
BYD exported 119,600 passenger cars and pickups, marking a 65.2% increase compared to last year. Chery shipped nearly 150,000 vehicles abroad. Other major brands such as Geely, Changan, and GAC also reported record overseas sales.
In the first two months of the year, total Chinese car exports reached 1.55 million units, a 61% increase year-on-year. Out of these, electric vehicles accounted for 670,000 units, with an 88% growth rate.
Experts attribute this surge to rising global demand for electric vehicles amid high oil prices, alongside Chinese technological competitiveness and a well-developed supply chain.
Chinese automakers are rapidly expanding their global footprint, offering a broad range of electric vehicles that fuel their export growth.
Overall, favourable economic factors and technological advancements are expected to sustain the upward trend in Chinese car exports, potentially reshaping the global automotive market.
