Moto Guzzi unveils renovated headquarters and museum on Lake Como
Italian motorcycle manufacturer Moto Guzzi has completed the renovation of its historic headquarters, museum and expanded factory in Mandello del Lario on Lake Como. Thousands of owners of the brand’s motorcycles arrived on Saturday for the annual World Guzzi Days gathering. This was reported by Asharq Al-Awsat.
Five years of renovation
The complex, located between a mountainside and the lakeshore in northern Italy, was expanded by 5,500 square metres. The factory and the brand’s museum received additional space. The work lasted five years and cost more than €50 million, or about $58 million.
Moto Guzzi has belonged to Piaggio, the maker of Vespa, since 2004. During the opening, visitors were able to watch motorcycles being assembled by hand through new viewing areas, a process carried out at the facility for 105 years.

Hand assembly and automation
Piaggio Group production chief Matteo Boddi said manual work remains a key part of Moto Guzzi’s manufacturing process. According to him, automation is used for safety and production sustainability, rather than as a replacement for workers’ craftsmanship.
The renovated factory has installed an automated line for moving parts and engines, as well as a robotic system for transporting completed motorcycles for final testing. The expansion could potentially double the maximum annual production capacity to 30,000 motorcycles.
American architect Greg Lynn said the space was intended to be accessible both to brand enthusiasts and to people interested in motorcycle manufacturing in Italy. Participants in the gathering also rode along the winding roads beside Lake Como.
