New BMW 3 Series to get 443-hp M350 xDrive
BMW has confirmed that the new generation of the 3 Series sedan will be produced in Germany with four- and six-cylinder internal combustion engines and 48-volt technology. The flagship version will be the M350 xDrive, which will replace the previous M340i, Motor1 reports.
Six-cylinder engine and rear-wheel-drive mode
The M350 xDrive will be equipped with a three-liter inline six-cylinder turbo engine with a mild-hybrid system. The combined output of the powertrain will be 443 hp, while torque will be 580 Nm. According to BMW, the sedan will accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, and its top speed will be electronically limited to 250 km/h.
The vehicle will have xDrive all-wheel drive and the Drift Moment function. Once activated, all engine power will be sent to the rear axle, effectively providing a rear-wheel-drive mode. The function is to be added next year via an over-the-air software update, including for vehicles delivered earlier.

Production in Dingolfing
In addition to the M350 xDrive, the new BMW 3 Series will have less powerful four-cylinder versions. Production of the model is expected to begin later this year at BMW's plant in Dingolfing. This will be the first generation of the 3 Series not assembled in Munich: the plant in that city will produce the fully electric BMW i3.
According to the publication, the gasoline-powered 3 Series will use the CLAR platform, while the electric i3 is built on the Neue Klasse architecture. The models are likely to have similar designs, while the new 3 Series interior may receive a 17.9-inch central display and the Panoramic Vision system with projection along the lower part of the windshield.
